"from the earth"

            During the past decade Margo McNulty has collaborated with Redfoxpress to produce
            a number of artist's books documenting her practice.
            Her practice explores the relationship between memory, place, and materiality.
            Through painting, printmaking and photography, McNulty reflects on how personal
            and collective histories become embedded within objects and landscapes. Her work
            often draws upon Irish traditions and investigates hidden narratives that shape
            cultural identity.

            McNulty is obsessed with history but her version of it leans towards archaeology
            rather than grand narratives. We look down from above on the colonial surveillance
            tower, but not so much to own it from above as to see it in its context of bare,
            disintegrating stone walls, spindly grass, nearby ruins. We can see down into it,
            intuiting but not quite knowing its secrets, as the local community once did but
            has forgotten, buried now in dust and crumbling spaces.             (Catherine Marshall)
