Blotting papers with advertisements (buvards publicitaires) became very popular in France
after the second world war. They were mostly used in school notebooks for blotting the excess
ink when writing and for protecting from the wrinkling of the pages. As they were always very
visible on the desk or working table they become an easy tool for advertising products.
They would be distributed in shops, added into the packaging of products or inserted in diaries,
          notebooks, writing pads and almanacs.
Most common advertisements would be for house hold products and food.
The introduction of the ballpoint pen in the sixties prompted the decline of the use of blotting papers.
The official authorisation of the ball pen in the schools in 1965 is the end of the "buvard" era.
